Seeking to uplift and empower, Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) promoted responsible waste management practices to residents of Barangay Tambo and Barangay Dongallo in Paranaque. PITX Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) department facilitated a training program as part of the group’s corporate social responsibility program (CSR) program and environmental initiative entitled Sweep Sweep Broom Broom.
PITX, the country’s first landport, is a subsidiary of leading Philippine infrastructure firm Megawide. The company is responsible for notable projects in transport infrastructure in the Philippines such as PITX and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
85 individuals from the two barangays attended the program held November 22, 2022, receiving a briefing on relevant laws, types of waste, correct waste management, and the R’s (reduce, reuse, and recycle). Attendees also received reusable bags in support of the program’s initiatives.
Beyond training residents, the Megawide subsidiary wishes to build a stronger sense of community with stakeholders through the program.
“We share our public spaces with neighbors. That is why we must regard them with utmost care. A powerful way of demonstrating this is through responsible waste management, which limits disease, cleans our surroundings, and improves the overall health of our communities,” said Jason Salvador, PITX Head of Corporate Affairs.
Residents near PITX can expect future environmental programs benefiting their communities. A clean-up drive and a “Pera sa Basura” livelihood program have been scheduled for later this year.
Philippines’ first landport
A landmark piece of transport infrastructure in the Philippines, PITX is a 4.5-hectare intermodal terminal which houses a podium, office buildings, and commercial spaces. It is a flagship project under the Philippine government’s public-private partnership program.
PITX is outfitted with state-of-the-art facilities that ease provincial and in-city bus transfers, including bus bays, organized departure and arrival areas, ticket reservation and bus information systems, and commercial options.
Megawide subsidiary MWM Terminals won the 35-year contract to construct and operate PITX in 2018.
