Good news to the people of Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu! The city government has entered into a deal with Citicore Summa Water Corporation (CSWater) for the construction and operation of two desalination plants that can provide around 60, 000 cubic meters of bulk water per day, enough to fill 24 Olympic sized swimming pools!
On Oct. 22, 2019, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, and Citicore Power officials, led by Citicore Power Managing Director and Chairman of the Board Oliver Tan, and Citicore Power Chief Executive Officer Jose Antonio Soler, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on two desalination plants. With the help of Citicore Power, the Lapu-Lapu City government will be the first local government unit in Cebu to come up with a concrete solution on the water supply problem.
Groundbreaking for the plants is planned for December this year and will be completed within 18 months, so as to serve the people of Lapu-Lapu immediately. Another good news is that the firm will be prioritizing the residents of Lapu-lapu City for its manpower.
“The Metropolitan Cebu Water District is happy with what we are doing. With private sector participation, at least one of their problems has been addressed,” Chan said in a statement.
