The CAPA Center for Aviation Awards for Excellence hailed the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) as this year’s Asia Pacific Regional Airport of the Year, recognizing its milestones in advancing the local aviation industry.
GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation (GMCAC) President Louie Ferrer and Chief Executive Adviser Andrew Harrison received the award on November 15 during the Gala Dinner held in Singapore.
“Mactan-Cebu [International Airport] has emerged as a leader among small- to medium-sized airports, while GMCAC’s strategy of positioning Cebu as an alternative hub to Manila for domestic to international connections is starting to pay dividends,” said Peter Harbison, CAPA Executive Chairman.
The Awards recognizes both airports and airlines that “are not only successful, but have also provided industry leadership in adjusting to a new environment.”
This is the third recognition received by MCIA in 2016 alone. The Guide to Sleeping in Airports website ranked the airport as the 14th best in Asia after placing 18th in 2015. The IJGlobal Asia Pacific Awards also awarded the MCIA project, which is under the government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, as the Best PPP Deal in the Asia Pacific Region.
